About the Scottish Fold breed
Which cat can you find today in almost every Ukrainian apartment? Of course—the Scottish Fold. This breed has been extremely popular for several years, and not only in Ukraine.
Cats have been living alongside humans for many years. We are fascinated by the size of the Maine Coon, the long thick coat of the Persian, the lack of shedding from the Sphynx. But only the Scottish Fold evokes that breath-catching feeling of tenderness. The reason is its “baby-face”. Scottish Fold kittens have a baby-like face, looking around with huge round eyes. It’s impossible to hide a smile when you see a Scot; you want to hold, cuddle and protect it.

(All of the photos on my site show only my own animals—my cats or graduates of my cattery—as well as cats from friendly catteries that have participated in our breeding program.)
A single touch of a Scot is worth it: a silky, plush coat your hand sinks into. And of course the ears! Small, tightly pressed against the head. The ears are the breed’s main hallmark. No one will doubt that this baby is pure-bred, because a Scottish Fold does not walk the streets.
The Scottish Fold also resembles an owl: the spherical head with tiny, close-fitting ears that blend perfectly into the outline, plus those surprised, huge, wide-set eyes.
Character of Scottish Fold cats
The Scottish Fold is an affectionate and devoted cat with a plush temperament. It loves every member of the family equally. Scottish Folds are not fond of sitting on laps, but they adore cuddling and purring while simply sitting nearby.
At cat shows, Scottish Fold kittens take leading positions. They form the largest group and leave no one indifferent, always winning prizes. You can also buy a Scottish Fold kitten at such shows.
Today the Scottish Fold remains the most widespread and desired breed worldwide; prices range from 1,000 UAH to 3,000 EUR. This spread is determined by the quality of the animal. A dominant gene is responsible for folded ears—if one parent is a Scottish Fold and the other any breed (even mixed), some kittens will have folded ears. Depending on offspring quality, the price varies. Unfortunately, “bad breeders” sometimes mate two Fold cats, which causes skeletal mutations in kittens.
If you’ve decided the Scottish Fold is your breed, you can buy a Scottish Fold kitten in Kyiv (and elsewhere) from specialized Scottish Fold catteries.
Our rules
At our cattery you can buy a pure-bred Scottish kitten (Fold or Straight) as well as a Maine Coon kitten, all born from carefully selected titled parents.
We fully guarantee the purity of the bloodline.
In our Maine Coon cattery (Kyiv) and our Scottish cat cattery you will find only pure-bred animals. If you need a Maine Coon mix, you must look elsewhere.
Our kittens almost always meet the highest class.
Nevertheless, we usually sell our Maine Coon and Scottish kittens only as pets with compulsory neutering. Why? Because un-neutered animals often end up in careless matings with sub-standard partners, and keeping an intact adult without mating is harmful to its health.
If you do buy one of our kittens for breeding, we are always happy to advise you on partner selection, assisting with births and raising both Maine Coon and Scottish kittens.
How the price of a Fold kitten is formed
Any pedigree animal (cat or dog), whatever the breed, MUST have documents proving its origin, because only they state the breed of the animal you’re buying. When purchasing a kitten, ask the breeder to show you the parents’ pedigrees and give you the kitten’s papers.
Having papers (certificate of origin or pedigree) does not change the kitten’s price.
A kitten without documents may grow up to resemble a real Scottish Fold (or Maine Coon) only slightly.
How much does a Scottish Fold kitten cost and why is it so expensive
When buying a kitten you decide:
- What you expect from the animal—just a beloved pet for your sofa, or a show star and breeding cat.
- Which class the animal must be (pet, breed, show).
- How much you are ready to pay for your dream.
You’ve thought and realized you’ve always wanted a cat and chosen the breed. Now for the price. Current AVERAGE prices:
Scottish Fold—without pedigree papers: 100–200 USD.
- Pet or show-neuter: 200–400 USD.
- Breed class: 300–600 USD.
- Show class: 500–2,500 USD.
Maine Coon—kittens without papers practically do not exist (any such offer is a deception). The starting price for a pure-bred pet-class kitten is 700–800 USD; good-quality kittens start at 1,500 USD.
People often want a “cheaper” non-breeding kitten, maybe without documents but still pedigree, huge, with perfect ears and coat and a steady psyche. Such requests are incompatible with the word “CHEAPER.”
Think of cars: a basic model versus a BMW—both are cars but of different levels. Some choose quality and comfort; others settle for “whatever.”
REMEMBER! A REAL PEDIGREE ANIMAL WILL NEVER BE CHEAP. THERE ARE NO CHEAP KITTENS THAT FULLY MEET BREED STANDARDS.
A kitten’s price includes:
- Its breed value, parents’ titles and sometimes unique colour.
- Cattery fame (shows and advertising are costly).
- Feeding (premium industrial feeds vs cheap food), housing conditions and the breeder’s labour.
Breeding top-quality cats is costly: buying titled producers, premium feeds, vet checks, vaccinations, expensive stud fees (1,500 UAH for a Scottish Fold, 6,000 UAH for a Maine Coon).
“Multipliers” ignore these rules: their cats give birth three times a year in cages, eat poor food, have no papers, and kittens are sold at 1–1.5 months.
To raise a healthy 3-month-old kitten the breeder spends at least:
- Food (6 meals/day): premium dry and canned 300 UAH; meat 300 UAH; dairy 250 UAH.
- Litter: 150 UAH.
- Papers: 400 UAH.
Vaccinations and deworming add 450 UAH. A pregnant or nursing mother cat costs another 300 UAH/month. Minimum total—1,800 UAH per kitten, not counting breeder labour, stud fees, club dues, show costs or the cattery website.
Thus kittens cannot initially cost less than about 2,000 UAH (Scottish Fold) or 5,000 UAH (Maine Coon). Lower prices mean mixed-breed parents, poor care or no vaccinations.
Resellers buy cheap kittens and keep them in cages; many die.
If you want a specific breed, buy a true pedigree animal or adopt a stray; paying 2,000 UAH for a kitten without papers only encourages bad breeders.
